Man dies after being hit by driver in Amherst County

AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7)-- A man has died after being hit in traffic Saturday night.

Virginia State Police say the man was dressed in dark clothing, and was hit while attempting to cross the travel lane in a non-designated crosswalk of Amherst Highway.

According to State Police, 67-year-old Joseph Baker of Lynchburg died at Lynchburg General Hospital after being hit in the 4600 block of South Amherst Highway by the driver of a 2011 Subaru Legacy.

The driver stopped and remained on scene after hitting Baker. He was not injured in the crash.

According to State Police, it was raining at the time of the crash and speed was not a factor.

No charges have been filed.
