Man found dead in Pittsylvania County believed to be connected to Altavista shooting

ALTAVISTA, Va. (WDBJ7) -- A man found dead in Pittsylvania County is believed to be connected to a reported Altavista shooting, according to the Campbell County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office received reports of a possible shooting on River Bend Road in Altavista Friday, but details about the victim or location of the shooting were still unknown.

Deputies were told a man was shot during a dispute.

Investigators eventually found Christopher James Tench, 26, in Pittsylvania County. He died from an apparent gunshot wound, according to the sheriff's office.

His body was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office in Roanoke.

The incident is being investigated as a homicide, and is still ongoing.
