Man shot after trying to break into residences in Campbell County

A man in Campbell County is recovering from gunshot wounds after deputies say he was trying to break into residences.

According to the Campbell County Sheriff's Office, deputies received reports on February 24 at approximately 1:30 a.m. about an unknown male subject attempting to break into residences on Ventura Dr.

Deputies say a homeowner called and advised deputies that the man was trying to break into their home. Deputies say the homeowner then shot the man before he fled the scene on foot.

Deputies say they later located the man, who was suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest and identified him as Jeremy Maurice Jones. According to deputies, Jones was later charged with trespassing and property damage.

Jones was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries.
