ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) A Botetourt County man tried to bring a loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun onto an airplane at the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport, according to the Transportation Security Administration.
The TSA stopped the Blue Ridge resident at a checkpoint on Thursday. The gun was loaded with 10 bullets, including one in the chamber.
Police cited the man on a state weapons charge. He told police he forgot he had his gun with him.
The TSA has not released the man's name.
Travelers who brings guns to an airport checkpoint can face fines up to $11,000, as well as possible criminal charges.
