MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) - After a snowstorm swept through several counties in southwest Virginia,
the cold didn't keep many from having a good time in the snow.
In Martinsville, it snowed for much of the morning and into the afternoon Saturday.
The snow blanketed the area, but stayed off the roads, creating a picturesque winter wonderland.
Martinsville native Lindsey Bryant wasn't sure if the snow was going to reach them or not.
"I was optimistic but it was a nice happy surprise," said Bryant.
She loves what happens when snow takes over.
"One of my favorite things about this type of weather is the world kind of shuts down a little bit."
Bryant saw families out in the morning building snowmen together.
"This type of weather is nice for bringing the family together."
The snow day also brought kids together for a day of sledding.
"We came here to have fun we live like three houses away," Daniel Duran said, holding a sled, pointing to a hill.
Duran brought his two little brothers to take full advantage of the snow, while it still layered the ground.
"I wish it would snow much more because we already know on Sunday it is going to be sunny and half of this snow may go away," he said.
The brothers pledged to spend the rest of the day sledding before the snow melted.
