MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7)-- Tuesday night, the Martinsville City Council voted 5-0 to begin the town reversion process.
Council chambers were packed as the city hosted a public hearing on reverting to town status.
Over the last few months, City Council has been discussing a recent reversion impact study during closed sessions.
Tuesday night, an attorney hired by the city laid out the information from a study and the impact of reversion.
City Council members tell WDBJ7 they believe their vote is a necessary step in order to start negotiations with Henry County.
