Memorial Day ceremony held in Martinsville
Martinsville had its own ceremony at the People's Cemetery Monday morning.
Complete with the raising of the flag by the Honor Guard, the National Anthem was played by a rising Martinsville High School senior and city council made remarks.
Everyone in attendance stressed the importance of remembering the lives lost.
"Certain service members have gone unrecognized for many years, and the local folks here who've been able to give the due remembrance to these local patriots, I think is very important," Les Adams of the Virginia House of Delegates said.
The Honor Guard concluded the ceremony with a Three Volley Salute and the playing of taps.
