LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) -- Lynchburg Police say a 6-year-old child is in the hospital after being accidentally being shot by their 4-year-old sibling. The children's mother is now behind bars as a result of the incident.
Police say on January 5 around 2:18 p.m., officers responded to the 100-block of Watergate Drive in reference to a report that a child had been shot.
Upon arrival, they found the 6-year-old with a single gunshot wound. The child was transported and treated. The wound is not life-threatening, police said.
An investigation revealed that a 4-year-old child in the house gained access to a pistol and accidentally fired it, striking the 6-year-old.
The mother of the children, 29-year-old Megan Dawn Little, of Lynchburg, was arrested and charged with Felony Child Neglect and Allowing Access to Firearms by Children.
In addition, 27-year-old Anthony Shawn May, of Lynchburg, was charged with possession of marijuana.
