MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7)— Folks in Montgomery County had a chance to hand in their resumes on Thursday at the Community Job and Resource Fair.
The department of social services holds the fair once a month from May through October and it’s something they’ve been doing for about two years.
They said it’s an opportunity to connect face-to-face with potential employers, especially if you have a criminal past and are trying to find that next step professionally.
“Some people may have a mistake that occurred 10-15 years ago, but it still shows up on their record so this may be giving them an opportunity to explain what happened and to explain how they changed,” said Keith Kauhane of the Montgomery County Department of Social Services.
Kauhane said it’s also more meaningful to connect in person.
“You never get an opportunity to speak directly to an employer,” he said. “You hit send on your resume and you don’t know where it goes. We try to make that connection so they can speak directly to the employer.”
The next fair will be on August 6th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Montgomery Social Services Building, located at 210 South Pepper St. in Christiansburg.
