BLACKSBURG, Va. On Monday, the Montgomery County leaders approved a resolution for a public hearing and the intention to sell the old Blacksburg Middle School property to Fiddlers Green Partners, L.L.C for more than four million dollars.

Fiddler's Green first plans to buy the back 14 acres for almost two million with a 12 month option to buy the front portion for 2 and a half million dollars.

Kris Keyer lives across from the property and says she's interested in knowing what could go there once it's sold.

"I hope whatever they built, they don't build it so traffic can keep going down Palmer, because already there's a lot of traffic, " said Keyer. "It will be kind of nice to have something that blocks wind a little bit. I hope whatever they do, they leave a little bit of green space."

Jack Webster also lives next to the property and says he also likes the open space.

"I see a lot of people walking their dogs there. A lot of people flying RC planes. I appreciate that it lets me walk downtown faster," said Webster.

In a statement, Fiddler's Green Partners, L.L.C said they look.. forward to working with the Town, the community, and other stockholders as we finalize plans for and then move forward with the redevelopment of the old middle school site as a key gateway to downtown Blacksburg.

Until the board makes a final approval, people here are hoping for the best.

"Blacksburg has a lot of green space, so I hope whatever they do, they keep some of it," said Keyer.

That public hearing is expected to be held on May 9th.
