Montgomery County responds to vandalism at Old Blacksburg High School

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) Montgomery County addressed concerns over vandalism and crime at the Old Blacksburg High School building on Thursday.

County officials said they take acts like that very seriously and are asking people to report suspicious activity to them or to police.

The county also said because the building is not in use, they don't want to use much tax money for extra care of it.

However, they are being sure to care for the track and softball field locals use regularly.

Brian Hamilton with the County Economic Development explained, "Our goal with the building is to take care of the grounds that the community uses and then if any citizen calls or raises a concern, we will take care of it. Of course, no trespassing signs are posted very visibly everywhere around the building and our goal is to sell it and have the third party then demolish the building as soon as possible."

Hamilton said the county hopes to sell the land by the end of 2016.
