According to Meals on Wheels America, about 10 million seniors in our country face the threat of hunger.

More than 15 million are living alone in isolation.

The senior population is expected to double by the year 2050, and that means the potential for more seniors in need.

The LOA Area Agency on Aging in Roanoke needs more volunteers to serve that growing population

Shannon Abel with the LOA says volunteers don't have to deliver meals five days a week. They can do a day or two a week, to accommodate their schedule.

Volunteers are expected to deliver the meal and generally check in with the clients to make sure they are okay.

The LOA says often the Meals on Wheels volunteer is the only visitor an elderly recipient will have on most days.
