ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) Roanoke police were at an apartment Tuesday where investigators were conducting a search warrant at Getachew Fekede’s apartment.

Investigators were at Brandon Manor Apartments on Lynn Avenue on Tuesday afternoon. When WDBJ7 got there, they were just about to lock the door on apartment number five.

Elizabeth Bartleson was Fekede’s neighbor and says she's shocked and saddened by what happened Tuesday morning. She said she knew Fekede, and described him as her best friend.

"He's a nice guy, he would give you the shirt off his back. He would give you money if you needed it. He's a real sweet person. And I didn't think he'd do something like this,” Bartleson said.

Bartleson says she's known Fekede for about five years. Police said he moved here from Kenya in 2011.

Bartleson says her neighbor was a nice guy who worked at FreightCar America. But she said he talked to her about problems he was having there.

"When he quit his job he was telling me and my boyfriend that passed away that there was workers down there that was giving him a hard time,” Bartleson said. “And he was telling his supervisor about it, and his supervisor didn't want to do nothing about it. I guess it just took a toll to him, and he did what he did.”
