A new adventure park is opening in Giles County and it's announced its first major event on Wednesday, a first of its kind motorsport event for Southwest Virginia.

It's being called the New River 500.

500 kilometers of riding duel sport bikes and ATVs over a three day period in April.

But that's just the start of what can be done to show off Giles County and the whole NRV.

Shawn Hash from Tangent Outfitters explained, "I grew up in the New River Valley and I absolutely think we live, probably, in one of the most beautiful places on earth and I thought this would be a great way to share that with other people."

Tangent Outfitters is partnered with four other businesses, GearHead Moto Tours, Go Race, Inc., Loud N Clear and The Palisades Restaurant, in preparing the land in Glen Lyn and hosting for the big New River 500.

The land, right along the historic New River, is being called Kairos, which translates into Quality of Time.

"What this property is about is creating moments, enjoying the quality of time," Hash said. "When people come here we want them to leave with memories, things that can't be taken away."

But it won't just be the weekend of motorsports with more than 150 miles of traveling each day.

This land comes complete with amphitheaters, RV and tent camping site, and soon-to-be-built cabins.

"Groups are already talking to us about off road half marathon and off road marathon. Just outdoor weekends, weddings, it could be a musical venue as well," Hash said.

He also explained at his Outfitter store, he's had duel sport enthusiasts from around the world traveling to Giles County, including Scotland, France, and Paris, so he knows the area can be successful.

And it's not just motorsports over April 7-9. Anyone can go and enjoy fishing, hiking, and canoeing all at this large area.

What is included in the registration: Access to Kairos property on Friday evening or Saturday morning, primitive tent camping for two nights, bathhouses, and necessary facilities, pig roast and party on Saturday evening, world class destination dining for both Saturday and Sunday lunches, souvenir t-shirt and guided or self-guided dual sport routes through Giles County. You are welcome to bring your RV as there is a well-appointed campground. Camping is included for primitive sites for both nights. If you want an upgrade you will have to add that on at the end of registration. Throw in your camping chairs for the pig roast and party on Saturday night.
