DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) - The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region will soon have a new executive director: Kathy Milam.

Milam is currently the Executive Director of the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History and previously served as agency grant writer for the Danville Pittsylvania Community Services.

Debra Dodson is retiring after serving 20 years as the Executive Director of The Community Foundation. Bob Wiles was the first director who helped to found the organization.

"I've been here for 20 years so its a little hard to let it go. Its like raising a child, but its time for them to fly on their own now. Its been such a wonderful organization to work with and we've touched so many lives across the region," said Dodson.

The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region is an independent, public charity established in September 1996 by a steering committee of local civic leaders to gather permanent funds to support our area. The Community Foundation has assets of more than $35 million and has awarded more than $21 million in grants and scholarships.

While the Foundation works with donors to establish funds to benefit any geographic area, our primary service area is Danville/Pittsylvania County, Virginia and Caswell County, North Carolina. Donations are also being sought to build up resources for South Boston/Halifax County, with consideration being given to other neighboring counties.
