New exhibit at Salem Museum highlights Champions

SALEM, Va. (WDBJ) - Are you a Salem resident and a champion in a sport or another hobby? The Salem Museum wants to hear from you!

Currently, a new exhibit is underway that will highlight champions, who have won first place at the state level or higher, in a competitive process for, well, anything!

Marbles, chess, soccer, spelling: the goal is to find as many champions as possible. Right now the oldest champion being included in the new permanent collection is from a championship in 1916. While many artifacts will be on display, there will also be a digital collection for museum guests to look through.

According to the executive director of the museum, Fran Ferguson, the museum has about two-thirds the money it needs for the exhibit, which is set to open on September 21, 2019. If you would like to donate an artifact, money, or contribute in any way, you can contact the museum here.
