An off-duty Lynchburg police officer was charged with driving under the influence early Sunday morning.
According to a news release from the Lynchburg Police Department, Timothy Dooley was arrested by Virginia State Police around 1:40 a.m. early Sunday.
Dooley was stopped in his personal vehicle on the Campbell Ave exit from Route 460. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and refusal.
Dooley has been employed with the Lynchburg Police Department for 15 years. His current rank is senior specialist.
Dooley has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of criminal and internal investigations.

On 8/21/16 LPD Officer Timothy L. Dooley was arrested by the Virginia State Police for Driving while Intoxicated, 1st offense (18.2-266, Code of VA) and Refusal (18.2-268.3).
Officer Dooley was off-duty at the time and operating his personally owned vehicle when he was stopped by a VA State Trooper on the Campbell Ave. exit/460 west ramp at approximately 1:40 am. Officer Dooley has been employed with the LPD for 15 years and currently holds the rank of Senior Specialist. Following established procedure, Officer Dooley has been placed on Administrative Leave with pay pending the outcome of both a criminal and internal investigation.
The LPD is reviewing this matter internally while the VA State Police handles the criminal investigation. Because of the ongoing criminal court proceedings regarding this case, the LPD will not be making remarks on the criminal case.
