One dress, seven days: Junior League of Roanoke Valley launches campaign to address poverty

By  |

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) Hundreds of local women will wear the same dress for seven days as a part of Junior League of Roanoke Valley's Little Black Dress Initiative.

They women are also sporting pins that say "ask me about my dress."

It's all to draw attention to poverty and its effect on women in the Valley.

"Many women in our area struggle to find something to wear to work every day, so wearing the black dress brings that into focus and helps us keep that in mind," Sarah Baker said.

Hundreds of women are taking part in the social media campaign, which has been successfully replicated by other Junior League chapters.

Members are encouraged to wash dresses between wears.

Junior League focuses on empowering women and families, with an emphasis on addressing poverty.
