Parking spaces honoring combat wounded veterans appear in Bedford

BEDFORD, Va. (WDBJ7) Military veterans who were wounded in action are being recognized with their own parking spaces in Bedford.

The Military Order of the Purple Heart is installing new signs to designate parking spots for the combat wounded.

Fisher's Restaurant is the first business to participate. A sign at that location was dedicated Wednesday morning.

Signs have already gone up at the Bedford Welcome Center and the county sheriff's office, and more will soon be posted at Thaxton Baptist Church and the Bedford Moose Lodge.

"I think it shows a respect, not just for our Purple Heart veterans but all veterans," said Clifton Krantz, Sergeant At Arms for the Military Order of the Purple Heart's Lynchburg chapter. "As the saying goes, some gave some and some gave all."

The Bedford board of supervisors recently passed a proclamation designating the county a "Purple Heart Community."
