UPDATE: New information released on Lynchburg officer-involved shooting

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) -- Update:
The Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) released new information about an incident where an officer fired his weapon at a man who was later taken into custody.

The officer has been identified as Michael Iazzi.

Iazzi has over 5 years of law-enforcement experience. Iazzi has since been placed on restricted duty, which is standard practice for an officer-involved shooting.

"We are thankful that no one was seriously injured and are reminded of the hidden and unexpected dangers that those in law enforcement face every day," LPD praises.

In an earlier release, LPD praised the officer involved in the incident.

Police were called to the 700-block of Norwood St. at 2 p.m. after getting a report of a violent trespasser. Authorities found Andrews and another person at the scene, both were armed.

Andrews raised his gun at the officer. The officer fired his gun and the suspect fled the area. No one was injured by the officer's shot.

A 22-year-old Lynchburg man is in jail after an altercation with a Lynchburg police officer Sunday afternoon.

Malik J’Kwar Andrews is charged with two counts of brandishing a firearm, grand larceny, and obstruction of justice.

Police were called to the 700-block of Norwood St. at 2 p.m. after getting a report of a violent trespasser. Authorities found Andrews and another person at the scene, both were armed.

Andrews raised his gun at the officer. The officer fired his gun and the suspect fled the area. No one was injured by the officer's shot.

Andrews was captured and arrested 20 minutes later after a brief pursuit.

He is being held without bond at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Lynchburg.

Virginia State Police are investigating. The officer directly involved in the shooting has been placed on restricted duty.

Police in Lynchburg say a person is in custody following an officer-involved shooting in the city.

Authorities say they responded to a call for a violent trespasser on Norwood Street around 2 p.m. on Sunday.
