Pittsylvania County Schools to get new video conferencing technology

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7) Some new technology will be coming to Pittsylvania County Schools.

The school system was recently awarded a $215,000 grant to purchase networking and video conferencing equipment.

The grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant program.

The school system hopes to buy a camera and camera station for each of the 20 schools.

"It kind of acts as an equalizer between what students here in the rural area have access to versus what students in a more urban area have access to," says Pittsylvania Co. Schools Assistant Superintendent for Operations, Dr. Jeff Early.

The equipment will allow students to go on virtual field trips, speak to students on another end of the county, and possibly take college courses.
