Police: Man transported to the hospital after being shot

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) -- Roanoke Police say one man was transported to the hospital after being shot by another man who came to aid a woman that was being held against her will.

Police say they responded to a report of a shooting on Saturday, Oct. 13, around 11 a.m. in the 2100 block of Tinker Dr. NE. Upon arrival, officers located Jesus Alvarado, 35, of Texas, with gunshot wounds to the abdomen.

Police say Alvarado was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Further investigation revealed that Alvarado was holding an adult female against her will overnight before an adult acquaintance of the woman came to her aid.

Police say in the resulting confrontation, Alvarado tried to attack the man with a knife before the man shot Alvarado twice.

Warrants have been obtained for Alvarado for Abduction and Malicious Wounding. The adult male acquaintance has not been charged at this time.
