VINTON, La. (WDBJ7) - Authorities are investigating a possible case of embezzlement at fast-food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken in Vinton.

According to a search warrant, management at the KFC restaurant located at 713 Hardy Road in Vinton discovered issues with their business account in late September after their bank alerted them of some concerns over their business account.

"The regional manager of that KFC store learned that the general manager of the store had been withholding cash from the KFC deposit bags and writing personal checks to KFC from her Woodforest bank account to make up for the amount she had embezzled," the search warrant states.

Between late August and late September, the search warrant states the manager had deposited 29 personal checks to KFC totaling $24,194. The KFC cash deposits made during that time were about 18 totaling around $31,042.

"KFC management advised they believe their account was current at that time as they were not short on money due to the money [the manager] wrote to them, although she did not have permission to withhold money from the cash deposits. Management also discovered they had three KFC deposits are missing," the search warrant states.

According to a police affidavit, the two missing deposits are from September 27 for $910.00 and $1,011.57. The third missing deposit is from September 28 for $1,041 totaling $2,962.57.

"Management advised that [the manager] is the only employee authorized to make the cash deposits to the bank. She was confronted with the embezzlement incidents and, in some verbiage, admitted to management what she was done," the affidavit states.

The Vinton Police Department executed a search warrant for the managers banking records in early November.

According to Vinton Police Chief Thomas Foster, the investigation is still ongoing.

"We have not charged anyone at this point. We are currently reviewing records and information provided to us by KFC management," Foster said via email.

According to the police affidavit, the manager has been fired from KFC.
