President Donald Trump expresses his support for Bible Literacy classes in a Monday morning tweet.
“Numerous states introducing Bible Literacy classes, giving students the option of studying the Bible,” Trump wrote in a morning tweet. “Starting to make a turn back? Great!”
Six states have considered introducing bills that would allow Bible Literacy to be taught in public schools including Virginia.
A Virginia representative, Charles W. Carrico proposed bill SB1502, which would require grades 9 through 12 to offer elective courses on the Bible.
The courses would teach students on the Hebrew Scriptures and Old/New Testament of the Bible.
SB1502 would prohibit students from being required to use a specific translation of religious text and "shall not endorse, favor, promote, disfavor, or show hostility toward any particular religion or nonreligious perspective."
