Presidential candidates' economic plan potential impact on Southwest Virginia

RADFORD, Va. (WDBJ7) Donald Trump has criticized Hillary Clinton's economic plan since she unveiled it Thursday.

But a Radford University economics professor says both plans will impact Southwest Virginia. Thomas Duncan tells us neither plan will reduce the national debt.

He says Clinton's economic ideas are more of the same, somewhat mirroring the current administration/s.

Trump's plan enforces a tax on goods from Mexico and China which could have affect our region.

"If you look at an area like Southwest Virginia, we like cheap goods because we're not as wealthy as say Northern Virginia is. So if you start increasing the cost of things for us, that has a significant impact on us," Duncan said.

Duncan says that has the potential to cause a recession.

Both candidates will continue to reveal economic ideas throughout the campaign season.
