RADFORD, Va. (WDBJ7)— At Radford University, students are spending the week collecting and donating canned food to local families in need.
On Tuesday, they spent their time sorting donations from the community. The Radford Gives Back drive is a chance for the community to feed those in need.
The donations will go to students at Radford City Public Schools through Bobcat Backpacks, a local nonprofit that feeds hundreds of students in grades K-through-12 each weekend.
“When I first heard of this opportunity I thought it was amazing,” said senior Barbara Hill. “I like the purpose and the reason they do it for. I come from a low income family, so giving back to the community is something that warms my heart and I like seeing children’s smiles.”
They plan to pack 300 weekend food bags Wednesday night to give to the kids on the MAC at 5 p.m.
