RADFORD, Va. (WDBJ7) -- A Radford infant is dead after an incident that occurred in late February, according to police.

On Feb. 28, Radford City Police responded to the 600 Block of 11th Street to a call that the infant was not breathing.

Police said the infant was transported to Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, and was later transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Police were notified of the infant's death on March 7.

According to a search warrant affidavit, the child's parents told police the infant was sleeping in a "pack and play" style crib and was found to be not breathing.

The child's father later told officers that the infant was sleeping in the bed with both parents, and that he awoke to find the child's mother asleep, laying on top of the infant, according to the affidavit.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Radford City Police Department, along with Radford City Department of Social Services.
