Next time you're cruising in the car, there's a new radio station to turn your dials to here in the Roanoke Valley.

Radio Free Roanoke, WROE-LP, 95.7 FM, is a grassroots organization that started about 5 years ago. But they didn’t go on air until about 11 p.m. Thursday night.

"We are going to be relying on the community for support, both in programming and financially, because we are a 501-3C, non-profit, so any contributions are tax deductible," said Robert Capper, Executive Director of Radio Free Roanoke.

He says they’re focused on real local issues, the community and its people, even local music.
