DUBLIN, Va. (WDBJ7) -- The body of a woman was found in a car submerged in Claytor Lake over the weekend.
Dive teams recovered the body of Martha Shelton, 74, of Pulaski near the boat ramps at Claytor Lake State Park Saturday.
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office said first responders saw headlights under the water around 7 p.m.
A dive team was called out to the scene, and that's when crews found a 2004 Subaru vehicle with Shelton’s body inside.
"The State Park was closed. We are not certain at this time why one of our citizens was in the park and the purpose of that visit was," Pulaski County Administrator Jonathan Sweet said.
Investigators do not suspect foul play was involved in the case.
Crews from multiple agencies helped in the operation, including Newbern Fire Department, Pulaski County EMS, Pulaski County Special Operations Team, Radford Fire and Rescue, Pulaski County Emergency Services, Hubbard Towing, the State Park Police, the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and member agencies of the New River Valley Swift Water Association, Christiansburg Fire, Christiansburg Rescue and Long Shop McCoy Fire and Rescue.
Shelton’s official cause of death will be released following an autopsy by the medical examiner’s office
