UPDATE: Police identify driver killed in tractor trailer accident in Roanoke County

Police have identified the driver who was killed in a tractor trailer accident on Catawba Valley Drive Wednesday as 56-year-old Jeffery Allen Sutherlin.

Officials in Roanoke County confirmed the driver of a tractor trailer involved in an accident on Catawba Valley Drive has died.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The road is still blocked by downed power lines, and drivers headed that way should find another route.

Motorists can expect road closures in the Catawba Valley Dr. area of Roanoke County after an accident involving a tractor-trailer.

Police say on Wednesday around 6:23 p.m., officers were dispatched to Catawba Valley Dr. at Keffer Rd. in reference to a tractor-trailer accident.

Police say the tractor-trailer struck a telephone pole and power lines landed across the road.

Fire and rescue teams as well as police say they are on scene assessing the situation.

There is no word on injuries at this time.

Police are asking motorists to avoid the area.
