Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport prepares for winter months
This week the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport is hosting "Winter Weather Preparations" training. Eight other airports within the region are taking part.
The training consists of safety tips on how to properly run equipment, as well as demonstrations on how to work the equipment in winter weather conditions
The director of marketing for the airport, Brad Boettcher, says the most important part of the training is safety tips.
"Creating muscle memory, so our guys and gals don't have to think about snow removal; they know exactly what to do. When you're doing an eight-hour shift up and down the runway, keeping it clean from the snow and the ice, it's great to have muscle memory for that as opposed to think about what you're doing," he says.
The airport hosts two to three training sessions a year.
