Roanoke City Police see a rise in stolen cars

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) Roanoke Police are seeing a huge spike in the number of stolen cars this year. They say that number is up 60 percent this year compared to last. About 230 were stolen so far this year. The majority had their keys left inside and were left unlocked.

Detective Dale Brink, Roanoke City Police Department, said, “Take a few extra seconds, make sure you have your keys, take your valuables out and lock your doors. Don't leave valuables in plain sight.”

Police say it's a citywide issue, and they're able to recover about 80 percent of those stolen vehicles.
