ROANOKE CO., Va. (WDBJ7) - Roanoke County Police Department announced the passing of K9 Jabbo.

K9 Jabbo and his partner, Officer Stickley, were a dual purpose K9 Team at the department since 2012.

K9 Jabbo was 9-years-old and specialized in bomb detection and patrol tracking/apprehension.

Roanoke County police say K9 Jabbo was one of the most seasoned and experienced in the department.

Police say Officer Stickley brought Jabbo to an emergency vet Saturday evening after noticing he was having a medical issue. They say they learned K9 Jabbo had an inoperable mass on his chest, and passed peacefully.

"It's a big loss for the entire department, these dogs work very hard, they work with our officers very closely, in many cases they protect our officers," Chief Howard Hall of the Roanoke County Police Department said.

Roanoke County Police say the department is honored to have had K9 Jabbo serve. K9 Jabbo will be greatly missed.
