Roanoke Fire-EMS investigating afternoon apartment building fire

The American Red Cross is currently assisting two people displaced by the apartment fire on Jefferson Street, according to a release from the American Red Cross, Virginia Region.

According to the release, the family has been provided with emergency disaster assistance that they can use for such things as food, shelter, and clothing.


Roanoke Fire-EMS responded to a fire at an apartment building on the corner of Jefferson Street and 22nd Street Tuesday afternoon.

Right now it is unclear if anyone was injured, but Roanoke Fire-EMS says that one cat died in the fire.

According to Roanoke Fire-EMS, the American Red Cross is on the way to the scene to assist those affected by the fire.

Crewssay that they're still investigating the cause of the fire.

Right now, fire crews are giving the building an overall assessment by checking the walls and seeing if they can salvage any of the items inside the building.
