ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) The countdown is on for one of Roanoke's most popular events.
The Roanoke Greek Festival is happening this weekend, and preparations are well under way at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
From the tents to the folding chairs, the grounds of the church will be ready to accommodate thousands of people.
Pete Simopoulos has served as Roanoke Greek Festival Chairman since the event began 14 years ago.
"Yesterday was a record for us," Simopoulos told WDBJ7. "We skewered 10,000 kabobs from 9 a.m. to 1:30. God bless all of the volunteers that came out ."
The food is the main attraction for the three-day event, and the festival will include a drive-thru along with seating under the festival tent.
