UPDATE: Man arrested after homicide and malicious wounding incident

Dejon Leslie White, 22, of Roanoke, was arrested by authorities in Philadelphia after he was wanted for murder and malicious wounding stemming from a homicide and aggravated assault that occurred in the 1300 block of Burks Street on January 5.

White is being charged with being a Fugitive from Justice.


One man has died after a Friday shooting in Roanoke.

Michael Cardona Santamarina, 22, from Roanoke died Tuesday morning at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.


Authorities have charged one man and are looking for another in connection to the Jan. 5 shooting on Burks Street that sent two people to the hospital.

Monte Taylor, 19, of Roanoke has been charged with malicious wounding. Detectives have obtained a warrant for a malicious wounding for DeJon Leslie White, 22, of Roanoke.

White is not in custody at this time and authorities are asking anyone with information to give them a call.


The victims of the Jan. 5 shootings in the 1300 block of Burks Street SW have been identified.

Michael Cardona Santamarina, 22, and Troy Savion Gastelo, 24, both of Roanoke were found in a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. Both men are still in the hospital.

Police say the shootings did not appear to be random. The investigation into this matter is ongoing.

Their condition is unknown.

No arrests have been made.
