ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) - The Blue Ridge Marathon fun kicked off Friday with the runner's expo.
One Roanoke group, the Roanoke Regional Partnership, is using the race to encourage people not just to run in Roanoke - but to move to Roanoke.
The Roanoke Regional Partnership set up at the Patrick Henry in the pre-race lounge. They used the expo to show the runners all the amenities the Roanoke region has to offer.
Runners got to try local beer, learn about recreational opportunities and the kind of work-life balance they'd find in the city.
"The Roanoke Regional Partnership wants to bring more people to the region for business growth, and to support our business community here," said Erin Burcham, Director of Talent Solutions. "We have lots of companies looking for talent and we want to be sure to support their efforts so they can continue to grow and continue to strengthen our economy."
Burcham said they're working with other local groups, like Visit Virginia's Blue Ridge, to talk up local mountain biking trails and downtown amenities.
