ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) The Roanoke Rescue Mission is celebrating a major milestone.
More than 400 people have successfully transitioned from the homeless shelter into housing this year. That doubles last year’s total of 201. The chief development officer says it’s due to hard work and additional training for case management staff, as well as stronger relationships with services that help people get back on their feet.
Tracy Altizer, Rescue Mission Chief Development Officer, said, “So many people think that people come to the Rescue Mission and they end up being warehoused or institutionalized and that is so not what we do. We are about people taking steps forward to improve their lives to move from crisis to stability and to housing and employment.”
This month, a donor is providing a $50 thousand dollar donation match for all contributions through December.
