Roanoke artists to open studios this weekend

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) 22 professional artists are opening their homes and studios this weekend in Roanoke.

The 19th annual Open Studios Tour Roanoke takes place Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm.

If you visit Eric Fitzpatrick's studio on the self-guided tour, you'll see his latest take on Natural Bridge, a series of water color studies he completed during a recent residency in Maine and a portrait of Alabama football coach Bear Bryant, the latest work in a series on southern culture.

"You know you can't do it in a vacuum. You are doing these things to communicate in a sense," Fitzpatrick told WDBJ7. "And we artists need an audience. We love to talk about the work, so this is a great chance for people to come and say, 'hey what's that about."
