ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) Members of a Roanoke Church reached out to the wider community Thursday, and Roanoke's Mayor is encouraging other congregations to follow their example.
Perfecting Unity Church has held Operation Touch for the last six years.
The event connects people with social services and provides free food and clothing, along with plenty of encouragement for those who are facing difficult challenges.
"This is a great opportunity," said Roanoke Mayor Sherman Lea, after speaking at the event. "And I want to see more of these events happen across our city so people can understand what we're doing."
Operation Touch also provided some hands-on attention, with free manicures. And hair stylists at the Black Diamond School of Beauty next door volunteered their talents as well.
