Parents need to talk to their kids about gun safety early, to prevent accidental shootings

In light of the recent accidental shooting death of an 11-year-old boy in Roanoke at the hands of a 10-year-old, more families are likely talking about gun safety

Having that conversation is a good thing, says Roanoke Crime Prevention Specialist Officer Travis Akins. He recommends talking to kids about gun safety as early as possible.

Akins says there are four easy steps he suggests kids to follow, if they encounter a gun. They are the rules laid out from the Eddie Eagle Gunsafe Program from the National Rifle Association.
