Roanoke library partners with local group to celebrate Roanoke Valley Saves Week

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) - The Roanoke library along with United Way of Roanoke Valley kicked-off their Roanoke Valley Saves week celebration Monday to encourage everyone to save their money.

Libraries all across the city will be hosting workshops all week to help people of all ages to be smarter with the money.

"We are a program called Bank on Roanoke Valley, we are part of a local campaign of America Saves Week," said Amelie Rives, United Way's Financial Stability Strategies Manager.

On Monday they encouraged people to sign pledges to save money for a goal.

The first 30 people who made pledges received a free piggy bank.

"So the idea is we want to rally local savers around the idea of saving money and reaching goals and committing to those goals," Rives said.

"So this kick-off today is just mean to get people in the door, take a pledge to save, having resources available to make you excited about your goal make it more likely to reach it."
