ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) -- You may notice something different with the Roanoke police this month. Their officers are participating in a No Shave November fundraiser.

This is the department's second year letting male officers grow beards.
Women officers can paint their nails and leave their hair down. Non-uniformed employees can also wear jeans.

The police chief said it is good for morale and raises money for a good cause.

"It's a great opportunity for us to put on a different face -- no pun intended -- be seen in a different light, and give a little bit back to the community," Roanoke Police Chief Tim Jones said.

The department hopes to raise $3,000. The program has been wildly popular, and they will keep the fundraiser going until March 1st.
