Roanoke police identify victim in downtown homicide

ROANOKE, Va (WDBJ7) We now know the name of the man who was shot and killed early Saturday morning on Campbell Avenue near Benny Marconi's.

Police have identified him as Kendall Lamont Wallace, age 35 of Roanoke.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting.

Officials said the suspect is described as a black male, between the ages of 25 to 30, between 5'8" to 5'10" tall, and medium build.

Police in Roanoke are investigating a fatal shooting that happened early Saturday morning downtown near Benny Marconi's.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Campbell Avenue SE.

Officers saw a large crowd in the area and a victim lying on the sidewalk with apparent gunshot wounds. He was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he died at 3:08 a.m.

The victim's name has not yet been released.

Investigators say it appears the shooting happened after a fight between the victim and the suspect.
