Roanoke police officer found dead in police department from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound

The body of a Roanoke police officer was found at the police department Wednesday, according to Crime Prevention Specialist Scott Leamon of the Roanoke City Police Department.

The officer died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in the facility at 348 Campbell Avenue SW.

The officer's name will not be released at this time.

This investigation is ongoing.
