ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) A Roanoke County school is doing what they can to help hurricane victims in Puerto Rico.

Penn Forest Elementary School employee Maria Gargano is collecting donations to send to a school she used to teach at in Puerto Rico.

She is encouraging all students, parents, and the community to donate baby supplies, water purifying tablets, non-lithium batteries, packaged children's socks and underwear, and monetary donations to pay for shipping.

"It's been wonderful, my coworkers have tried to help in any way they can in facilitating the donations, making fliers, just making a plan to ship in every way," she said.

The school is encouraging students to bring donations to their classrooms by Wednesday, October 18. They also welcome donations from the community. If you would like to donate, you can call the school at the school: 6328 Merriman Rd, Roanoke, VA 24018 or call (540) 772-7590.
