Rockbridge students get a book of their own at school year'send
Some elementary school students are ending the year with a special gift.
A Rockbridge County group called For the Love of Books handed out free books to first, second, and third graders at Lexington's Waddell Elementary today. They've been distributing the books all week to all the county elementary schools to encourage reading by children.
"So we've embarked upon visiting all the elementary schools in the entire community, distributing over 900 books to all the children in first, second and third grades," said Lexington Mayor Frank Friedman as he helped hand them out. "And we plan to carry on with it as they advance into fourth and fifth grades as well."
This is the fourth year for the program.
