The Town of Rocky Mount is set to discuss becoming a Second Amendment Sanctuary at Monday’s Town Council meeting.

Neighbors have been asking to address the topic and town officials expect a large turnout for the meeting, Assistant Town Manager Matt Hankins said.

The discussion will be less about political parties and more about the message the town wants to send Virginia’s General Assembly about their community’s values, Hankins said.

“When we have a political discussion, it’s not necessarily about blue or red, it’s about what values are important to this community. How should we be acting? What should we be upholding? And that’s what we will be discussing tonight,” Hankins said.

The meeting is set to start at 7 Monday evening.
