Runner crosses US for charity

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY (WDBJ7) How far would you be willing to run for your favorite cause?

Rob Pope started his run in Mobile, Alabama, and turned around when he got to Santa Monica, California. He's covered over 5,000 miles, and he passed through Lexington Friday on his way to the next goal post in Maine.

It's all to raise money for his favorite charities, the World Wildlife Fund and Peace Direct.

"Fundraising-wise, it's been going OK," Pope said. "I think we've raised around $12,000 so far. But we're hoping to raise a million for both charities, but what we'd have to do is to complete the whole run, which would be up to 15,000 miles. We're about a third of the way through at the moment."

Rob runs about 45 miles a day, and plans to be in Mount Afton Friday night, where he'll camp if he can't find someone to take him in.
