SALEM, Va. (WDBJ7) In Salem, the director of elections is expecting a large turnout for election day because they've seen a lot of early voters so far.

In the last governor's race in 2013, the office counted 250 absentee ballots.

With still another day to vote early, Director of Elections Dana Oliver says they've already had more than 450 people vote early.

"I think it's great, we want everyone to exercise their right to vote," Oliver said.

"I like the excitement of there being opposition because you have a little momentum because when no one is running against someone it is just a slow, it's just a slow, slow day."

The deadline to request an absentee ballot in person is Saturday, November 4, at 4:30 p.m.
